…to enable me to create reliable backups of the whole server before updating the operating system. there’s a lot of packages with updates available and i don’t want to do that without a backup in place to switch back to if anything should go wrong. to make sure such a backup can really be restored successfully, the server has to be off-line during backup. i expect this to take up to 40 minutes for each one, one after the other.
done with the updates. went without problems for both AWS servers. each one was down for almost 1 hrs.
i did the same with the azure servers, it.community and istagosthi. here i didn’t back up the whole server, just the respective databases since the docker app could be re-created exactly as it was if anything went wrong.
