hare krsna,
i find this really interesting since it’s offering an alternative to microsoft365 and google enterprise services that can, in combination with cloud-hosting platforms like
or
be used to offer online access to applications like:
-
Collabora Writer – A word processor based on LibreOffice Writer, comparable to Microsoft Word and Google Docs. It supports WYSIWYG editing, styles, formatting tools, comment threads, and change tracking.
-
Collabora Calc – A spreadsheet editor based on LibreOffice Calc, similar to Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets. Features include pivot tables, formulas, data validation, conditional formatting, advanced sorting and filtering, charts, and support for up to 16,000 columns. Compatible with some macros written in VBA.
-
Collabora Impress – A presentation program based on LibreOffice Impress, comparable to Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides. It supports master slides, transitions, speaker notes, and multimedia elements.
-
Collabora Draw is not a separate application, most of the functionality of the Draw application is now integrated in Writer and Impress – vector graphics editor based on LibreOffice Draw, comparable to Microsoft Visio and Google Drawings.
these applications don’t need to be installed locally by the users but can be accessed through any modern web browser on all common platforms (M$ windows, apple, android, linux). they allow for single or collaborative editing of text documents, spreadsheets, or images, just like google docs does.
the development version is available free of charge, for self-hosting everything:
A separate version, the Collabora Online Development Edition (CODE), is offered free of charge and is recommended for individuals, small teams, and developers. CODE provides early access to new features and serves as a testing and development platform for open-source community contributors.
i’m not sure what server resources we’d need to host such an installation ourselves. the smallest available VPS, like is used for this discourse instance here, would probably not suffice.
still, large parts of ISKCON could conceivably use such an “ISKCON cloud” and the cost be shared among everyone.
